Re-use IT: PC and laptop redeployment and resale
The age and value of your IT assets combined with your own disposal preferences will determine the range of retirement options open to you. Sims Recycling Solutions offers you a wide variety of asset re-use and recycling options. Your dedicated IT Asset Recovery Services account manager will work closely with you to determine the optimal strategy to achieve cost effective disposal, maximise your returns and meet your company’s environmental, budgetary, security or CSR objectives.
IT assets such as PCs, servers and laptops can be:
- Refurbished for re-use internally or via your distribution channels
- Refurbished for resale or charitable donations
- Dismantled to reclaim parts or components

Sims Recycling Solutions provides each of these, meaning that you need only one supplier. We guarantee data security and that all IT assets are assessed, tested, refurbished and recycled within the region that it arises. Sims Recycling Solutions does not export untreated whole or partial electronic waste outside of Europe.
Whichever combination of disposal options you choose, WebView asset tracking software enables you to understand what happens to each item of equipment, facilitating smooth and efficient asset tracking and providing you with data for CSR reporting.

On receipt of your IT equipment, we log each asset into WebView and comprehensively test it against agreed criteria, providing you with an in depth asset status, enabling you to make informed decisions about your computer redistribution and disposition strategy.
- Depending upon the service level you opt for, we can log a range of parameters on the WebView asset management system such as hard drive size, motherboard type, screen type, RAM size, processor and software licenses to help you gain a detailed understanding of your IT assets.
- You can specify testing requirements, enabling a client or project specific process, whether your primary aim is redistribution, component recovery, disposal, resale or returns management.
- Any faults found are recorded using reportable fixed fault codes with repairs carried out in accordance with your agreement. Repairs are only carried out if they will add value to the equipment.
- We check that all assets have all of the peripherals they are supposed to be returned with, such as cables, power supplies and carry bags.
- Software reimaging can be performed after deletion, so that the computer is redeployed with your preferred software profile.
- Blancco® Data Cleaner, the industry leading comprehensive data cleansing software is used to delete all data, unless you specify disk destruction by shredding or degaussing.
- Should whole units not be suitable for re-use, we can harvest parts for resale.

Increasingly businesses are extending the life of their IT equipment through a programme of re-use and redeployment. Sims Recycling Solutions also offers you an upgrade and refurbishment option, to achieve maximum re-use rates, reducing your capital expenditure costs.
We can upgrade memory, HDD, peripherals or software, and either return it to service or store it short term or long term until you are ready to redeploy the equipment.
Our asset recovery service is run by a team of remarketing specialists who are experienced at selling clients' IT equipment through channels such as resellers, retailers, brokers, and overseas dealers.
We also have our own direct sales operation, via eBay and other well established retail channels.
Prior to resale each asset is cleaned, tested, securely data wiped, re-boxed. All identifying stickers and asset tracking numbers are removed. Equipment is also cleaned to ensure its aesthetic value is enhanced.
As an alternative to re-use, redistribution or reselling of whole units, Sims offers a parts and components reclamation service.
Computer parts can then be redistributed as spares, made available for servicing or resold via our extensive global network to return value to your business.
These could include printed circuit boards, video and graphics cards, laptop batteries, cables, keyboards and mice.
