Certification to the Asset Disposal and Information Security Alliance standard (ADISA
Sims Lifecycle Services has become one of the first recycling companies in the UK to receive certification to the Asset Disposal and Information Security Alliance standard (ADISA).
The standard is the first to be developed to encourage and promote best practice in IT asset disposal and to bring a baseline benchmark of service quality into what was a previously unregulated industry. To achieve it, a rigorous audit of the company’s IT asset disposal services was carried out, focussing on risk management, data protection and environmental compliance.
ISO 14001 is an internationally accepted standard that sets out a framework of essential elements for putting an effective Environmental Management System (EMS) in place. The standard is designed to address the delicate balance between maintaining profitability and reducing environmental impact.
Each UK site is ISO 14001 accredited, including our newest sites at Billingham (WEEE, fridge recycling), Daventry (WEEE recycling) and Ellesmere Port (CRT recycling).
ISO 9001 helps Sims Recycling Solutions to improve customer satisfaction, staff motivation and helps create a culture of continuous improvement.
It is a quality framework used by over ¾ million organisations in more than 150 countries.
The Sims Recycling Solutions sites at Dumfries and Stalybridge hold ISO 9001 certification. Our recycling centres at Newport and Ellesmere Port are working towards it.
OHSAS 18001 was developed by a selection of leading trade bodies, international standards and certification bodies to provide assessment specification for occupational health and safety management systems.
It addresses issues such as:
- Planning for hazard identification, risk assessment and risk control
- Structure and responsibility
- Training, awareness and competence
- Consultation and communication
- Operational control
- Emergency preparedness and response
- Performance measuring, monitoring and improvement
Each established UK Sims Recycling Solutions recycling centre holds OHSAS 18001 certification. Recent acquisitions are working towards certification.
Sims Recycling Solutions WEEE recycling lines have achieved the R2 Standard. R2 is an accredited certification program for Electronic Recyclers. The R2 Certification sets forth requirements relating to environmental, health, safety and security aspects of recycling electronic waste. Sims’ goal is to achieve the R2 Certification at its global sites as an independently recognised demonstration of its objective to offer the highest possible standards of recycling, globally.
Sims' asset recovery provides computer equipment recovery, refurbishment, re-use, remarketing and recycling services, which work to additional standards:
- ADISA - Asset Disposal and Information Security Alliance standard
- Data Destruction completed to HMG IA Standard No. 5 - Secure Sanitisation of Protectively Marked or Sensitive Information, Issue 3.1, October 2009 (formerly Infosec 5 and CESG Manual S)
- Hardware destruction to UK government standards
